Customer-premises equipment or customer-provided equipment (CPE)

Telecommunications customer premises equipment can comprise: telephone(s), facsimile, Alarm Telemetry Systems, PABX, xDSL, EFTPOS, Cable TV.

The CPE term is also applied to telecommunications technicians responsible for the installation and maintenance of telecommunications plant and equipment in customers’ premises.  Technicians with underpinning skill and knowledge of the telecommunications Open System Interconnection (OSI) model; digital multiplexing; digital switches and networks; bearer systems; transmission and switching installation and testing practices; the fundamentals of a broadcast control system, and a coaxial or fibre cable communication system for provision of customer services and data fundamentals relevant to business services.
